The checklist grew as more hardware was added in later modifications and models. The A-4E/F models had about 97 items on the checklist for just the exterior of the a/c. Once inside the cockpit their were another 25 items to check in the cockpit interior, and then 55 or more switch positions to check before starting the a/c. A-4E/F Note the change in the refueling probe via A-4 AFC461 to get the probe away from the front of the a/c nose to faciliate use of forward looking avionics. The avionics hump on the back of the A-4F was typically installed on the assembly line, but many A-4E a/c also were retrofitted via A-4 AFC 325.
