CDR John Abbott  CDR John Abbott was shot down at Vin Sohn on April 20, 1966 flying an A-4C with VA-113. He was on a flack suppression mission for VA-85. He ejected near Rt. 1 about 5 miles from the coast. There were no ResCap available and too much ground fire to bring in an unprotected Helo. Lt(jg). H.G. Welch was shot down in BuNo. 149495 making a pass to see if he could be of any aid to the helo crew. CDR Abbott was the CO of VA-113 at the time. It is believed he was captured and died of his wounds (ejected at about 500 knots) a few days later. Harry G.
