Skyhawk Low Flight
Skyhawk Low FlightArthur Padios (2002)Oh! I’ve flown through ack ack flak, And danced with SAMS a few feet from my bird. I’ve flown my Skyhawk fast enough To send their missiles back. I’ve jousted with the thirty sevens, fifty sevens, And twenty threes, and fifties too, Frolicked in the bush, That only Jarheads knew, Chased the frightened VC guys along, Straffing them in the elephant grass like popcorn in the pot, And done a thousand things That I’ve bragged about. I’ve dropped my snake eyes on the bad guys Napalm, and the rest, I’ve ingested bomb debris down the intakes, And hoped for no compressor stall. I’ve streaked through darkest night Just my Skyhawk and me, And spent the flight in terror of Things I couldn’t see. I’ve turned my eyes to heaven, As I sweated through the flight, Put out my hand and touched The Fire Warning Light. |
